Motorcycles are of three types: street, off-road and dual purpose. Street bikes include scooters, mopeds and cruisers besides others. Off road motorcycles are meant for racing and not for riding on streets. The dual purpose motorcycles have features which make them permissible to be used on the streets at the same time are fit for motor racing.

Pollution in cities from automobiles has reached unbearable limits. Traffic congestion has become endemic. For both these reasons, motorcycles are becoming the favored mode of transport. Its fuel efficiency is more than any other vehicle. Its contribution to green house gas emission is lesser with its low carbon emission. Its smaller mass makes it have a better fuel economy. However, motorcycles are more polluting. It is as much as ten times to twenty times as compared to the pollution from car. Nitrogen oxide is the major pollutant from motorcycle. This is caused by the poorer efficiency of catalytic converter of motorcycle. Nitrogen oxide is a major constituent of smog.

The market for motorcycles has been showing a steady increase. Though the global economy has shown a downturn, yet the global market for motorcycle show a growth of 6.5 percent. The increasing cost of fuel along with the slow down in the global economy contributes to this growth. Electric scooters too are showing increased sales. Gasoline is substituted with battery to run the electric scooters. It has a superior fuel economy though with lesser speed. It runs almost silently. Electric scooter becomes a good option with the increase in the price of gasoline. There is almost no air and noise pollution. It is expected that the battery technology will improve in the coming days. There are a number of electric scooters in the market. They include Vectrix VX-1, Eped Sport/City, E-Solex, ZAP Zapino, Razor E200S scooter, Yo Speed, Peugeot Scoot’Elec, EVT-4000e and Io-scooter, Ezip Electric Scooters.

Motorcycle sales are highest in the Asian countries of China, India, Indonesia and Vietnam. Motorcycle owners are more than the other vehicle owners. Motorcycle owners are double the number of automobile owners in Taiwan. Registration of motorcycle increased by 50 percent in the United States. It is a common means of transport in the frontier towns of Latin America.

More and more people are now considering motorcycles important. It’s time for you to purchase one and look for the ones of excellent quality.

  • Hotel Vihiluoto – World-Class Airport And Conference Hotel

Jul 11, 2010 Author: Kari Harju | Filed under: Travel

Finland is a country that I had always wanted to visit, and when some long time friends invited me over to Hotellit Oulu , I finally had a good enough reason to come over. I still needed a place to stay however, and my main concern was how to find suitable accommodations at such short notice and on a decidedly slim budget. One of the first hotels I set my sights on was Hotel Vihiluoto, and although I was prepared to give up a few luxuries I was accustomed to in the name of a good deal, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that Hotel Vihiluoto was actually one of the best places I could have stayed in for the price.

Right off the bat, I knew that Hotel Vihiluoto was a great choice since, aside from being relatively inexpensive, it was located quite close to the airport. At only 4 km. away from the airport, I was walking into the foyer after a short 5-minute ride in the provided taxi pick up service. Make sure that you ask for this service when you book your room, as it can definitely make things a lot easier for you if you are coming in on the late flight as I did.

When I got to the hotel, I was pleased to see that it was situated in an area close to the sea, surrounded by lush vegetation and stunning views of picturesque Kempeleenlahti Bay. This makes the hotel ideally suited for a host of outdoor activities all year ’round. I was in town strictly for business of course, but this is something I definitely want to check out in the future when I have a bit more time to spare. Of particular interest is a visit to the rental cabin located in the scenic town of Ruka, which the hotel will gladly arrange for you.

One of the reasons I chose to stay at Hotel Vihiluoto is the price, and I certainly wasn’t disappointed. I came in during the middle of the week and only had to pay EUR 95 for a single room. Double rooms cost EUR 105, with the option to add an extra bed for EUR 25. Not bad for such tastefully appointed accommodations! Junior rooms are also available at EUR 55. Weekend prices are slightly higher of course, but it definitely won’t put a huge dent on your budget.

I actually ate most of my hotels in the city, but I did have a chance to have dinner at the hotel’s charming restaurant for a couple of nights. Along with the sumptuous breakfast that comes with the room, I am confident in saying that the food at Hotel Vihiluoto was generally pretty good. And with a respectable selection of sushi-which is a personal favorite of mine-I had to say that my food cravings were well sated.

Evenings are for lounging around at the hotel’s cozy Lappish hut, which is sizable enough to accommodate up to 30 people. With the great food that the hotel provides, this is definitely a good place to cap the evening at this charming hotel.

  • Caravaning With Pets

Jul 10, 2010 Author: Julie Steed | Filed under: Travel

Taking your pets with you on holiday is generally a good idea. You do not have to worry about paying someone to look after them and a lot of pets enjoy the change of scenery. You and your pet will also benefit emotionally from not being parted.

You need to find a site that is willing to allow you to bring your pet. Some sites allow cats and dogs, but are not happy when someone brings a more exotic pet. If the site is happy to take you pet find out if they have any rules that your pet needs to comply with whilst on the site. Most sites accept dogs, but they must be kept on a lead and have to be taken for a walk off site.

You are not allowed by law to let your pet travel in the caravan, regardless of the law, it is also not safe. Set aside a space in the car for your pet. A cage in the boot is usually the safest option. The cage must be big enough to accommodate your pet, its bed and some food and water. Make sure that you stop and let your pet out to stretch its legs during the journey. Keep the cage out of the draft and ensure that your pet cannot get too cold or hot.

If you have a pet that you can leave in the caravan when you go out make sure that there is plenty of ventilation, caravans get much hotter than most houses. Make sure that you leave plenty of food and water and that your pet has access to their normal bed, so that they feel secure. Before you go, spend some time in the caravan with your pet, this way they will be used to the caravan and happy to go with you on holiday.

If the site allows you to tie your animal up outside use a peg and lead that is designed specifically for this purpose. You can buy them in good caravan and camping shops.

  • Animal Facts – Magnificent Frigate Bird

Jul 9, 2010 Author: Marina K. Villatoro | Filed under: Travel

The frigate birds are a family of seabirds and are also called frigate pelicans. It can be found breeding along the Pacific coast of Costa Rica and in the Corcovado National Park.

They are also sometimes called Man of War birds or Pirate birds. Females are black, but have a white breast and lower neck sides, a brown band on the wings and a blue eye ring. They have long wings, tails and bills and the males have a red gular pouch that is inflated during the breeding season to attract a mate.

They live an estimated of 30 years. Frigate birds are seasonally monogamous. This means that males will only mate with one female each season. The Magnificent Frigate Bird is 100 cm long with a 215 cm wingspan. They are also known for nesting in colonies. Due to the fact that these guys lack the ability to take off from water, they snatch prey from the ocean surface or beach using their long, hooked bills. They have been seen catching fish, baby turtles and similar items in this way. When it comes to feeding they will also rob other seabirds, using their speed and maneuverability to outrun and harass their victims.

Male Magnificent Frigate birds inflate their throat sacs during breeding season, clattering their bills, waving their heads back and forth, quivering their wings, and calling to females. After mating has passed females lay one or two white eggs. Both parents take turns feeding for the first three months but then only the mother feeds the young for another eight months. It takes so long to rear a chick that frigate birds cannot breed every year. It is typical to see juveniles as big as their parents waiting to be fed.

Some potential problems they have are: introduced predators and over-fishing. They are not endangered but populations appear to be declining, due mainly to human destruction of habitat for housing and resorts, and disturbance in colonies.
